Mission of Mercy FAQs

What is the Mission of Mercy?

The Michigan Mission of Mercy is the state’s largest free dental clinic, providing dental care to patient participants at absolutely no cost regardless of insurance coverage for two days. This year, the MOM will be Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15 at Dort Financial Center in Flint starting at 6 a.m. sharp each day.

What should I expect at the Mission of Mercy?

Patients should expect quality dental care and education from dental professionals who truly care. Our goal is to treat as many people as possible while placing a priority on relieving pain and infection. Please be prepared to be there for the duration of the day, as our volunteer dentists make efforts to treat many patients while maintaining patient flow.

What services do you (and do you not) offer at the Mission of Mercy?

Mission of Mercy dental professionals do an entire dental care plan on each patient to assess their greatest needs, and then act on the most crucial of them. We offer cleanings, fillings, extractions, and dental education. Due to time constraints, we cannot offer bridges, crowns, dentures, metal-based partial dentures, orthodontics, or extraction of wisdom teeth.

How do I register to be seen as a patient at the Mission of Mercy?

Registration is completed at the clinic upon arrival, so there’s no need to register in advance. The clinic is first come first serve, so arriving early is highly recommended in order to guarantee that you can be seen.

How do I register to volunteer with the Mission of Mercy?

Go to https://www.rsvpbook.com/MIMOM2024 and follow the prompts to sign up. Dental professionals, medical professionals, and community members are all encouraged to get involved and volunteer!

Can I attend the Mission of Mercy?

Yes! No matter who you are, you are welcome to receive free dental care at the 2024 Mission of Mercy. Our Mission’s goal is to provide all people with the critical dental care they need regardless of your background, income, or demographics.

English is my second language. How can I ensure I will be able to understand the dental care information I am receiving?

Mission of Mercy organizers are making efforts to secure Spanish, Arabic, Russian, and ASL Interpretation services. Upon registering, patients may ask for interpretation services and will be assigned an interpreter to follow them throughout the dental care experience and help them as needed.

Is there transportation available?

The Mission of Mercy has partnered with the MTA to provide transportation to the Dort Financial Center on June 14-15:

  • Dedicated MTA bus service back and forth from the MTA’s Downtown Flint Transportation Center to the Dort Financial Center.
  • Individual transportation for patients that have had more acute dental procedures through MTA’s Your Ride services.
  • Anyone asking to go to the Mission of Mercy will not be charged for the MTA transportation.

What happens with my dental care after the Mission of Mercy?

The Mission of Mercy understands that, in most cases, patients will need to establish a local dental home to continue providing dental care after the clinic. Patients who attend the MOM will be given a list of dentists who will be available for follow-up appointments for individuals to establish a dental home with them.

What should I expect as an attendee of the Mission of Mercy?

MOM volunteers are expecting individuals to begin arriving the day before the clinic to stand in line. For this reason, we suggest you show up early, wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and plan to be at the clinic for the day with wait times. Patients will register, be taken through screening to determine a care plan, and then provided their most critical dental procedures. During that time, patients will also be given thorough dental education and the opportunity to connect with local organizations who are providing medical screenings, vaccines, and other care-based services. Patients will leave the clinic with a follow-up dental care plan, a list of dentists accepting new patients, and plenty of community resources.

As a volunteer, what should I expect at the Mission of Mercy?

Volunteers are who keep the Mission of Mercy possible and we are so thankful to each of them. As part of volunteering, the Mission of Mercy will provide volunteers with a shirt or scrub top and breakfast, lunch, and dinner during their volunteer time(s). We ask that volunteers leave their most valuable personal items at home and come wearing comfortable pants and shoes.
